Asus ZenBook 15 UX534 Review: The Price of Portability

Posted on 23 May 2025 By Redactor

The Asus ZenBook 15 UX534 promised a revolution: packing the power of a 15-inch laptop into a chassis closer in size to a 14-inch model. It aimed to deliver the best of both worlds, offering ample screen real estate and robust performance without sacrificing portability. However, the reality of the Asus ZenBook 15 UX534 is more nuanced, a tale of compromises and trade-offs that ultimately leaves one wondering if smaller truly is better. This review delves into the design, performance, and overall user experience to determine if the Asus ZenBook 15 UX534 lives up to its ambitious goals.

Design and Portability: A Mixed Bag

The shrinking act is undeniably impressive. Asus has indeed managed to squeeze a 15.6-inch display into a significantly smaller footprint than traditional 15-inch laptops. This makes it easier to slip into a backpack and carry around, a definite plus for those constantly on the move. However, the pursuit of compactness hasn’t come without its drawbacks.

  • Keyboard: The keyboard feels cramped, especially for those accustomed to larger layouts. Key travel is shallow, leading to a less-than-satisfying typing experience.
  • Touchpad: The touchpad, while responsive, also suffers from the size constraint. Its smaller surface area can feel limiting for multi-finger gestures and precise cursor control.
  • Build Quality: While aesthetically pleasing, the chassis exhibits a noticeable amount of flex, raising concerns about long-term durability.

Performance and Battery Life: Where Things Get Interesting

Under the hood, the ZenBook 15 UX534 boasts respectable specifications, including an Intel Core i7 processor and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX graphics. This translates to smooth performance for everyday tasks, light gaming, and even some moderate content creation. However, the compact design inevitably impacts thermal management.

Thermal Throttling

During extended periods of heavy use, the laptop tends to run hot, leading to thermal throttling. This means that the processor and graphics card reduce their clock speeds to prevent overheating, resulting in a noticeable drop in performance. This limits its capabilities for demanding tasks such as video editing or intensive gaming.

Battery Life

Battery life is adequate, but not exceptional. You can expect around 6-8 hours of moderate use, which is sufficient for a day’s work. However, power users who frequently engage in resource-intensive tasks will likely need to plug in before the end of the day.

Display: A Visual Delight

The display is one of the ZenBook 15 UX534’s strongest assets. The Full HD (or optional 4K) panel is sharp, vibrant, and offers excellent viewing angles. The slim bezels further enhance the immersive viewing experience. The color accuracy is also commendable, making it suitable for photo editing and other color-sensitive tasks.

While the Asus ZenBook 15 UX534 impresses with its compact design and vibrant display, it ultimately falls short of being a true champion. The cramped keyboard and touchpad, coupled with thermal throttling under heavy load, detract from the overall user experience. It’s a decent machine for those prioritizing portability above all else, but for users who demand uncompromising performance and comfortable ergonomics, there are better options available. As such, the design choices limit the potential of the system.
